The artificial reservoir of Gadi Sagar was created to serve as a source of water. It was built by Maharaja Jaisal in 1156 AD. However, later in 1367, it was rebuilt by Maharaja Garsi Singh. The reservoir is also known as 'Garsisar Lake'. The part 'Garsi' is derived from the name of the Maharaja and 'Sar' means lake. The reservoir also has a beautiful sandstone entrance. This entrance has beautiful arched windows. This gate is built at the entrance of the lake. It is believed that this gate was built by a dancer girl named Tilone. He built the gate when the king was away.

Built in 1367, this rainwater reservoir was once the only source of water for the desert city of Jaisalmer in the northern state of Rajasthan. These days it is the sight of the famous Gangaur festival. In March or April, depending on the calendar year, single women throw flowers in the lake, praying for a good husband.
Ironically, it was a ********** who left his mark on Gadi Sagar (sagar = lake/sea). In 1909, Tillon, a local ********** known for his wealthy clientele, established the entrance on the pier leading to the lake. Translated as Tylon's Gate, a group of local townspeople were not happy with the idea of entering through a gate built by such a man. The local ruler ordered the demolition of the gate after the successful request of the townspeople. But Tylon, known for his beauty, had smarts too. He quickly installed an idol of Krishna above. It will no longer be heard of to be abolished for religious reasons. The Gate of Tylon welcomes visitors to the lake even today.
